So last week, due to America’s birthday, an improputu road trip to Vegas and my computer freezing both me and the tech savvy Boy out – there was no Friday post! And so much happened last week I wanted to … Continue reading
This week, during some downtime and after a particularly grueling headache, I turned on Netflix and saw – to my utter delight – Romancing the Stone. For those with mothers from the 1980s who loved romance novels, Kathleen Turner and … Continue reading
On Thursday we went to the Venice Art Crawl and I was inspired.
Art. Let’s be clear: I am not an artist. I dabble, I doodle, I even pretend to know what I am talking about on occasion when in an art gallery.
But I am no artist.
I sometimes think I can be … then go back to my study materials. That being said: I love art. All kinds – performance art, tangible art, spoken word and transient works. I love words – written or drawn or sang, and I love the creativity that people hold when they think about anything – from little things like a day in their own life, to large things, like a revolution.
Art is, for me, the thing that separates us from mere robots: through art, through creative expression and through that whole process of going from idea to expression, we are reinterpreting the world around us, thinking it through in new ways and coming out the other side with something.
There’s good art, bad art; high art, low art; art for a specific purpose and art for no reason at all. But it’s all still art.

This weekend will be one of settling into things: my new study schedule, my new baking schedule, etc. Such is the life of one who is constantly moving forward. I started Bar Prep classes at Pepperdine in Malibu this week. … Continue reading

This weekend I am going to try doing a few things I haven’t really done before: butter, ice cream & mozzarella cheese. I have made cheese with my grandmother – queijo fresco – but never on my own. Given the … Continue reading
Need to get a telescope lens for my phone, I think.
The moon, however, is beautiful, despite the blur.
I was lucky enough to get a pink moon on my birthday, but to have a clear LA night? Priceless.
