Back home, this weekend, our friends and families all got together, ate until their tummies hurt and decorated and/or hid eggs.
Not so for us.
We’re, neither of us, religious so Easter isn’t a big deal per se … but we’re missing out on good food, family get togethers and competitive adults hiding and finding eggs.
There is some sadness in that.
So, we decided to have an adventure this weekend. We decided to go to San Diego and find an ice cream place called Moo Time that the Boy remembers from when his parents took him there as a child.
But first – I taught him how to make a deep pan pizza.
We both made one.
A white pizza for me, and a tomato-avocado one for the Boy.
Mmmm … pizza.
We pretty much had our way with the pizza.
And the next day, caffeinated, we were off to SD.
Of course, I needed to show the Boy to Old Town, where I took my sister and her Lovebug when they visited back in February.
Old Town SD is one of those places you have to visit at some point.
As the Boy put it, it’s “authentic”. It feels like it’s truly back in time, like it’s truly a living museum.
I love the Mexican corner of it – with the flags, the Folklorico and especially the food.
We stopped for some margaritas and lunch before carrying on.
I had some shrimp tacos, filled with spicy salsa and grilled shrimp. So yum.
And the Boy had El Fuego – a Burrito that had him downing two glasses of ice water in quick succession.
After lunch, we decided to head towards Moo Time – across the bridge from San Diego.
And can I say: What a beautiful place!
Do you guys know this hotel? It’s the Hotel del Coronado, and I am sure I recognize it from an episode of Baywatch …
Aw, well. Maybe just me …
They have a gorgeous herb garden ….
And a beautiful walk towards the sea …
And, after we started following the kids with the ice cream cones … we found the Moo Time!
… but we decided to head into town to check out the one without the huge line up for our icecream fix …
Moo Time was a great place – full of cool nic nacs, a cow you could pose with and some super yummy ice cream
Seriously – great peanut butter ice cream – I highly recommend!
Be warned – they give you a helluva lot.
The next day, we were going to head out to Sierra Madre and Pasadena, so we fortified ourselves with baked pancakes.
We made art – with cooked strawberries.
We were there on business, so we didn’t wander around like I would have wanted to.
Sigh, there are times …
I did snap some mountain and scene pics though.
Towards Sierra Madre …
And in Pasadena …
I think I have fallen in love with both places. I keep finding more places I love in California …
I am optimistic of the future …
And when we got back, we charred up some chicken and made skinny burrito bowls, recipe from here.
Not the prettiest thing I have made, but super yummy.
Then I settled in to make some bread, watch some Buffy …
And bite into this guy
My Easter treat with an attitude.
All in all, not a bad (short!) not-that-Eastery weekend!
How was your weekend?
