8 Sentence Sunday – 05.12.2013

Hey All!

I have decided to participate in 8 Sentence Sundays over at the Weekend Writing Warriors!

What you do to participate is take 8 lines from your story, be it complete or work-in-progress, and post them on your blog, FB, whatever – and then link back to the site!

This is the FIRST excerpt into one of my finished novels, The Fangs Between her Teeth (not about vampires). It’s about a group of lifelong friends who all share a secret of genetics – they’re all born werewolves. Which was all fine and dandy until they are stalked and hunted by an unseen force that threatens to tear their world apart!

This excerpt opens up under the full moon, and I hope you get the vibe I was going for – a bunch of teenagers who had to grow up too fast, but who are so very familiar with each other that they’ve created their own blood-independent family. Enjoy!

Bane strode to the center of the group and glanced around at everyone. “I see everyone is ready.” He didn’t wait for affirmation but went on, the ends of his shaved hair glinting with moonlight. “Some ground rules this month – from up high so stop glaring at me, Vivia.” He returned her glare and coughed once for authority, when she finally rolled her eyes in exasperation. “We stay away from the highway this time. No buts – Jack’s rough housing last month nearly got Luna hit by a truck.” “It wasn’t that bad – ” Luna began but was silenced by another glare from Bane. It hadn’t been all Jack’s fault, she thought. She had egged him on – played chicken with him until the truck’s headlights were bearing down on the both of them, and she had tripped..

  1. the vibe came through loud and clear – sorta like in my day when the boys played chicken – nice snippet but the title threw me off. The mention of fangs implies vamps in the reader’s mind
